South Central Farmers evicted
Today, the South Central Farm was raided by police, the farmers evicted, and the farm bulldozed.
Even though the farmers and their supporters raised $16 million(!) to buy the farm and the deal was being finalized, at the last minute the greedy, scumbag developer Ralph Horowitz decided he wanted $3 million more.
When they couldn't pay up, he sent in his lackeys, the LA County Sheriffs Dept., to evict the farmers.
One can only assume that Horowitz finds even more glee in depriving 350 poor families of their primary source of food than he does in counting his money.
The farmers still need support. See LA Indymedia for more.

Thank you for posting this! It is truly a sad day here in Los Angeles. The capitalist pig, Horowitz, said in a telephone interview that $ 100 million wouldnt have convinced him to sell the land, & spat on about coming to this country & acting like you (meaning mexican immigrants) are owed something & that he was tired of it!
I was unable to get to the farm due to the massive police barricades, but would have gladly been arrested for the cause.

My pleasure, Sappho. Thank you for covering it as well. I hadn't heard that about Horowitz. I guess we can add "racist" to the list of things we don't like about him.

Thanks for posting this Scott. This is unbelievably infuriating. Greed, brutality, money, and ignorance (top american elite values it seems) have won this battle and justice, liberty, democracy and environmental justice have lost. But the farmers seem to be saying that they are not done with the fight. So we'll see what happens.

Hey Wendy, thanks for stopping by. I'm not sure why it came up in the search.
Keep up the struggle down there!

The farm is the private property of Horowitz and it is his to do with as he pleases. He owns it, not the farmers. He is the one paying $25,000 a month in mortgage and maintainance fees, not the farmers.
I have nothing against the farmers, I wish them well, but they have no rights to someone else's property.
The only person whose rights have been violated is Horowitz; he is the victim.
