Viktor Yushchenko, candidate for Ukrainian president, before and after he was poisoned with dioxin.
I used to work at a non-profit in Philly called the Student Environmental Action Coalition (SEAC). One of our campaigns was "Dioxin Out of Tampons" which apparently has morphed into the Tampaction Campaign. The chlorine that most tampon companies used to bleach their tampons produced dioxin. Dioxin is one of the most carcinogenic substances in the world. Besides uterine and cervical cancer, it can also cause endometriosis, headaches, cancer, hormone disruption, birth defects, low birth weight, miscarriages, and infertility.
Nowadays the big tampon makers claim they don't use the same bleach, but dioxins can still enter through rayon (which alone can cause Toxic Shock Syndrome). So why take a chance, check out the alternatives.
In tampons? Man are these MegaCorps crazy... imagine all the other crazy chemicals we are wearing and eating...

Hi. Linked to you in my blog, fyi:
Current analogue to the talmudic discussion: The debate over bleaching paper with chlorine in order to get your best whitey whiteness. [Insert here or find yourself info about the pollution caused by the chlorine use to bleach paper or tampons.] Yes, the industry can argue white paper is easier to read. But is that really all that this bleaching debate is about?
Segue now back to the Jewish community today. Intense preference for white shirts among Orthodox and, generally, for Shabbat. What are the unintended environmental implications of this indulgence in white clothing? And how does this preference jive with the construction of race?

Those photos of the before and after of the Ukrainian President is pretty shocking. Its a fact that we have a toxic environment and are slowing dying because of it.
