On Monday night, Ali Abunimah, of Electronic Intifada, was on the News Hours with Jim Lehrer to discuss the Muhammad cartoons. Representing the opposing perspective was that pathetic token hack for the neocons, Fouad Ajami.
I happened to see it while I was eating dinner and was really impressed with Abunimah contextualizing of the whole matter and his thorough thrashing of Ajami and his vacuous arguments. Delightfully, EI has posted the whole conversation online. I highly recommend it.
The ignorant, idiotic Islamists who rioted over cartoons managed to move the entire western world (of all backgrounds) two steps to the right. Instead of condemning the rioters in no uncertain terms, the PC left, resorts to a bunch of academic psycobabble about "contextualization". The PC left's position about the sanctity of not mocking religion is the exact same position as Bush's. I'm sorry that the progressive forces in the Muslim world aren't strong enough to stand up to these idiots. The cartoons probably didn't help the situation, however, that is no excuse for appeasement to deranged Islamism from those in the western world.
PS The one cartoon I saw about no more virgins for suicide bombers was right on. Other bigoted cartoons shown by Islamist clerics weren't even published an important fact that the PC left hasn't been bringing up.

Maybe you should watch the interview I'm promoting before commenting. Abunimah stated:
"Well, I certainly agree with Professor Ajami about the protests in Syria and Lebanon. And the sacking of embassies is inexcusable. And, as I said, there are people who have tried to exploit this for cynical reasons"

Kudos to the News Hour for discussing the issue with 2 real Middle East experts unlike many "news" shows which bring on "Middle East experts" akin to Charles Johnson and the guy from Jihad Watch.

If anything good came out of these cartoon riots it is that greater awareness has been made of Islam's threat to the free world. That, and it exposed many Western liberals as the hypocrite, anti-freedom nazis that they are.
Tolerance for Muslim sensitivities? Since when have Muslims been sensititive to non-muslims. And since when have liberals ever been sensititive to Christians?
