Can You Get a Virtual Restraining Order?

Usually when someone has got something to say about a particular post, they leave a note in the comments section.  It seems to be a fairly intuitive exercise.  There are those, however, for whom a comment is not enough.  If they blog, they feel inclined to put up a post about how much they think one of my posts is wrong.  Like huffing ether, doing it every now and then is fine.  (Just kidding, kids...don't mess with the ether.)  It's part of blogging.  When it becomes a compulsive habit, then you have to worry.

Such is the case with David at Israellycool.  I've already covered the six previous times I've been slandered over there and I apologize for yet another post on it.  But this week alone there have been three Angry White Kid mentions.  He's even gotten to the point where he is preemptively posting about what he thinks I might say.  Those three, along with an earlier post, bring us to ten appearances on Israellycool.  (The latest four: one, two, three, four.)  It begs the question: Is I really cool in the eyes of David?  Probably not.  I'm just an  "'I-hate-Israel-but-some-of-my-best-friends-are-Jewish' blogger" who does "not value the blood of Jews like the blood of those who kill them."

Woe is me.  I guess I'll just have to go back to working on my plot to destroy Israel by confusing everyone about the actual date of its "Independence" Day.  It's hard work.

This blog now looks fine in general.  Internet Explorer but still looks like utter crap in Firefox (which is what we should all be using anyway).  What's up with that?

Apparently one of the new tools in this Typepad update is the "make your blog look like garbage" feature. 

Hopefully it's fixed soon.  Sorry about this.  Go read some declarations in the mean time or something. 

everything is crazy and it's not my fault

typepad (my blog host) did some "maintenance work" this evening and now this site looks even worse than it does on a daily basis. 

may they fix it soon, or i'll just have to get angry.  oh, wait....

A Post in Which Many Posts Fit

That title would make Marcos proud.  Er, riiight.

Anyway, here are some unrelated things that have come my way lately that are worth sharing. 

Speaking of Marcos, the Zapatista consulta has finished and the "new step" has been approved.  Expect the Sixth Declaration of the Selva Lacandona shortly.  (You can read the first five here.)

I already plugged Stories in America once, but you have to check out this interview Rose just did.  A few hours after the Killen verdict came down, she talked with Charles Evers, the younger brother of Medgar Evers.  I'm not too sure what to think, I'm still mulling it all over.  Here's one quote to whet your appetite: 

I'm a Republican, by the way. I feel there should be blacks in every party. I believe in most of the things Republicans stand for.

But that's just the tip of the iceberg.

A friend of mine has started a diary at the Daily Kos, trying to educate the "progressive except for Palestine" crowd, so check him out: jon the antizionist jew.  His latest entry is on the recent developments in the Dershowitz vs. Finkelstein drama.  The story has gotten even more bizarre.

On the topic of Israel/Palestine, some school children are asking God to "make sure 'we succeed in killing all the Arabs'" and Israel wants to wash its hands, monetarily speaking, of its responsibility for the murder or injury of thousands of Palestinians. 

Alas, if we had some Independent World Television, perhaps the West could get more informed on the issue.

And domestically, don't forget to Boycott Arizona Now.

Back to Real Life for a Bit

In an effort to do my part to celebrate Israel's "Jerusalem Day" tomorrow, I'll be posting up something rather significant (at least in the terms this blog).  After that, I'm taking a break from for about a week.  Got some school work and other projects in real life that need attending to.  Might post up a couple announcements, but that's it.

Does No One Got Love for the AWK?

There have been a lot of shenanigans happening around this blog in the past few days.  I certainly get a kick out of them, so I figured I'd share.

Some may recall that last month, as a result of a post on white privilege, I was not so kindly featured on a white supremacist site.  Once I became aware of their infestation here, I promptly put up a post to welcome them.  In true tit-for-tat form, they have just linked to that post and sent more racist scum this way. 

At least with those types you know where they're coming from.  More troubling are the revolting anti-Jewish and white supremacist trash that pretend to take a stand for justice but really are nothing more than racist filth themselves.  For example, Wendy Campbell, who in her rants about Zionists manages to slip up enough and write "Jews" instead.  A kind commenter notified me that she also has a tendency to refer to NYC as "Jew York City," attends rallies for neo-Nazi Ernst Zundel, and is a regular contributor to the National Vanguard, the paper of the white supremacist National Alliance. 

She also seems to spend a fair amount of time doing google searches on herself and found this blog, where you can see her in action in the comments section of this post.  (Her nonsense begins about a third of the way down.)  I'm sure we'll see some here as well.

Finally, while the white supremacists of the world are busy calling me a Zionist, we have Israellycool who claims I "reek of anti-Semitism."  I've mentioned him earlier, but since that time he's thrown up some more nonsense about me on three occasions.  (one, two, three)  The latest post is based on a comment I wrote at Semitism.net about him being a racist.

I'm flattered, but does all this attention seem a bit eerie to anyone else? 

He wants me to explain his racism to him (what do I look like, a self-help book?), saying I don't have a shred of evidence.  My evidence is his entire blog.  Just look at any post about Arabs, especially Palestinians, for a full view of the racist world of Israellycool.  I'm sure this whole bit will get me another post, as David takes his blog and his ego far too seriously.

To All the Bloggers That I've Loved Before...

I just learned that I haven't added a new site to this blog since February.  It needs a makeover, so I'm beginning the most definitely unfun task of editing and recategorizing my blogroll. 

If your blog is listed and you a) don't want it listed, or b) don't like the category it's listed under - let me know.  If you know of blogs (including yours) or other websites that should be listed but aren't - let me know.   This invitation is open-ended, so even if you're reading this months from now and have a suggestion - let me know.

Two New Sites

If you've got some time to check out new websites, might I suggest a couple:

The Arab Beyond, a new blog by a Palestinian friend in Oakland.   Though there are only a few posts up now, it promises to be interesting.  He is looking for his site to spark some dialogue amongst people of color, specifically Arabs.  The intro states:

Progressive Arabs have a triple responsibility: 1) to actively join the toiling classes and communities “of color” in the common fight for equality and justice, 2) to defy the Systematic onslaught against our cause and person; and 3) to struggle against fear, dogma and apathy within our own community.

His autobiographical post is an intense read.

The other site is Stories in America.  A couple friends have left San Francisco a few days ago to spend several months in America's "heartland" and share those people's stories.

I'm going on a five-month road trip to Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Alabama, Montana and Utah. I'll bring you personal narratives from people of all political stripes...In a nutshell, I plan to capture the look and feel of states that overwhelmingly voted for President Bush and are largely ignored by Democrats.

Changes Afoot

I thought I'd reconfigure the blog all at once, but realized if I did, it'd get put off and never happen.  So bit by bit incremental changes will be taking place.  The first few of those are a new picture, a listing of recent comments below the recent posts list, removing that "Talk to Me" link and photo, and adding a recently update blogs list below the categories section on the right. 

I should make clear in the strongest possible terms that the photo change was not the result of any trolls' comments on it.  Obviously having people call you fat is no fun, but one can see from the quality of their statements that nothing they say has any merit or is worth any consideration in the first place.  The main reason is that I think we need to move beyond placards and protests, so having a picture of me doing just that doesn't really fit the bill.  And I just got a haircut. 

Often people leave comments on posts from a while back that most people won't see.  So the recent comments makes that more accessible and helps people see when comments they left have been responded to.  The "Talk to Me" idea was a miserable failure, though I'm always open to suggestions about the blog.  And the recently update blogs list is a way to help other blogs get exposure (as well as my own) and seems like a friendly blogging community thing to do.  Now I'm gonna go enjoy what's left of my Saturday night. 

Blogger Beef (soy-based, of course)

There's a disturbing trend going on.  Every now and then this site gets listed on some right-wing blog, usually accompanied by a little virtual paternalistic finger-wagging and an excoriating comment or two.  That's all fine and good.

What I don't get are the people who can't step up and let you know when they're talking shit about you.  For those not familiar with blogging, there's a simple tool called a trackback, located between the main post and the comments section on most blogs, that you use when talking about another blogger's post in your own blog.  It's not required (obviously) but it's a common courtesy, gives your own blog more publicity and makes it easy to see when other people are talking about you. 

One blogger who follows that rule, even when calling you an anti-Semite, is Israellycool.  He had a brief, but emotional, infatuation with me for a few weeks where I ended up with a small pile of trackbacks.  As for the rest, and there've been six or seven that I know of, they seem to not know how that trackback feature works.  The latest case (I'd give previous examples, but I can't find them) comes from a post at Crystal Clear, who somehow sees a connection between pieing someone ("an illegal assault. This is a crime against the civil right to freedom of  speech") and the MinuteMan Project (aka crazies with guns playing "stop the darkie on the border," but in rightie speak: "a legal, commendable, honorable, and appropriate expression of the civil right to freedom of speech").  It's crystal clear that Crystal Clear is not a Mexican.  Though she does call refer to California as Mexifornia.  Is that cause she goes to Cabo?  Or because she has some pent up rage towards the woman who cleans her toilet?

In any case, Crystal didn't like my post about the crazies with guns.  It seems that's because it was angry.  No!  An angry post at Angry White Kid?  Get right out of town!  She did, on the other hand, approve of LaShawn Barber's post on the topic.  I'll leave it to That Colored Fella to take on LaShawn.

One final thought:  Raise your hand if you think the very least Pat Buchanan deserves is a pie.  I'll go on the record here as being a huge fan of the folks in the Biotic Baking Brigade and others who take action pie any means necessary.  I guess killing thousand of Iraqis is cool, but pieing a fascist scumbag  is treason.  Who knew?  Apparently it was crystal clear.
